Joe McCarthy graduated from the New York Film Academy and began working on film sets and music videos in Los Angeles, California. Eventually returning home to Connecticut he and fellow artist Peter Albano began an 18 month project centered around the visual exploration of the country's largest, man-made, underground river. The project, entitled "The Hog River Revival" opened 3 gallery shows and spawned a short documentary film.
Well versed in photographic, cinematographic and printmaking processes McCarthy's work is often exploratory in nature. He utilizes a variety of mediums to approach subject matter selected according to his own curiosities.
In 2012, Joe McCarthy received a City of Hartford Business Development Grant for Artists. He is currently working on a feature length documentary on fun houses and the independent amusement industry as well as a series of Kallitypes exploring and retelling the 1957 launch of the Sputnik 2 spacecraft.
Joe McCarthy is 26 years old; he lives and works in Connecticut.
